Canis Familiaris & Friends
First came Hesperocyon, 30-40 million years ago. Hesperocyon evolved both razor like canines and omnivorous teeth, giving it an evolutionary “leg up” in regards to diet. It’s short coat reflects the hot temperatures and high co-2 during the Oligocene Epoch which it lived in. Its sleek body, long snout and tail and short legs were adapted to better stalk prey, dig up burrows and take shelter in trees. Its evolutionary benefits were key in the development of both dogs and wet-nosed mammals as a whole.
